Holiday rentals in Santo-Tirso

Santo Tirso is something of an undiscovered jewel. In the northern part of Porto District, bordering Viseu district, Santo Tirso holiday rentals benefit from pleasant countryside and proximity to Portugal's second city.
.
We didn't find many holiday rentals in Santo Tirso during our exploration of Porto district but we're sure they are out there somewhere.

Paredes Holiday Rentals

Since Paredes is the Portuguese word for "Walls" you would expect to find a fair few in this municipality with the same name. In fact there is not much left of the old city walls. There are lots of places in Portugal with "Paredes" in the name and it can be quite confusing, particularly if you are searching on the internet. To find out a bit more about Paredes in Porto district take a look at our main page on Holiday Rentals in Paredes.

Holidayrentals in Penafiel - the forgotten Municipality?

Penafiel seems to be something of a forgotten municipality. To the east are the beautiful areas of Amarante, Marco de Canaveses and Baiao; to the west the more populated areas approaching the city of Porto.

Penafiel is rather lost in the middle, and yet with two major river valleys on its boundaries, this is an attractive place to spend a holiday. You can find out more about holiday rentals in Penafiel by reading our main page.

Holiday Rentals in the City of Porto

When you talk about holiday rentals in Porto you could be talking about anywhere in the administrative district of Porto. The jewel in this crown though is the city of Porto itself. The whole waterfront area (including the old wine caves) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the hub of Porto's tourist scene. Restaurants, cafés, riverside walks and boat trips are all centred here. For more details about the attractions of this lovely city you need to look at our main pages on Porto holiday rentals

Matosinhos Holiday Rentals North of Porto

Much of the coastline of southern and south-western Portugal is quite "built up" but further north tranquility reigns.

Holiday rentals in Matosinhos look out over quiet stretches of sandy beach and yet the buzz of the city is only a half hour away.

Look at our main page on holiday rentals in Matosinhos to see what we discovered along this unspoilt shore.

Holiday Rentals in Maia

We have just been exploring the municipality of Maia in Porto District and have found that it is very industrialised and quite densely populated – not an obvious choice of location for a holiday rental in Porto. However, there just may be some jewels lurking in Maia, possibly in the more rural north. If you know of any such Maia holiday rentals then please, do let us know.

Lousada Holiday Rentals

Continuing our exploration of the Porto District, we came across the municpality of Lousada. Something of a "Mecca" for motor sports enthusiasts, this small but well populated locality in the Duoro valley is worth a second look.

Many of the villages contain some attractive buildings, parks and fountains and, being quite close to Porto, it is easily accessible from the city. The full article on Holiday Rentals in Lousada is now available on the main pages.

Holiday Rentals in Amarante, the land of love.

Amar is the Portuguese verb “to love” and Amarante lives up to its name in early June when, during the Festa da Sao Goncalo, some very strange-shaped cakes make their appearance.

Phallus-shaped, these cakes are exchanged as love tokens among the young folk of the town. Read our full article on Holiday Rentals in Amarante to see what else is on offer in this attractive area.

Can You See a Windmill from your Odemira Holiday Rental?

I really love windmills and the typical Portuguese windmill is so different from those in the UK or other northern countries.

Near Odemira in the district of Beja, there is a beautiful blue and white example set to catch the breezes off the Atlantic.

If you too love windmills and are looking for a quiet holiday rental in Portugal near to both sea and mountains, read our article on Holiday Rentals in Odemira. It could just be the ideal destination for you.

Do You Believe in the Miracle of Ourique? Read more and find out about holiday rentals in Ourique at the same time.

At the battle of Ourique a small Christian army is said to have overcome a much larger force of Moors and overcome them, thus giving rise to the Portuguese nation.

The victory was attributed to divine intervention and makes a lovely legend. If you take a holiday rental in Ourique or anywhere nearby you are sure to come across any number of references to this event, some with very dubious historical basis.

Even so, it is interesting, and wouldn't you like to stand on the very spot where God apparently decided that there should be a nation called Portugal?

Take a holiday rental in Cuba and enjoy the carnival.

No, I'm not talking about Cuba in the Caribbean but Cuba in Portugal. Every March the streets of this little Alentejo town are filled with colour and music as the local inhabitants enjoy their annual carnival. The climate here is so mild that a holiday in March is perfectly feasible - and the flights are cheaper! For more information about this little-known municipality, read our full article on Holiday Rentals in Cuba.

What holiday rentals in Beja?

As far as holidays go, the municipality of Beja is up and coming with the "active" crowd as opposed to the "beach brigade". Fortunately Portugal is large enough and varied enough to cater for all tastes.

If yours is for walking, cycling, riding or other outdoor pursuits, then try Beja. Days are spent under clear blue skies, the nightlife is restaurants rather than discos.

The couple at the next table will probably be Portuguese although tourists are beginning to discover the area. If this sounds like your sort of holiday, try a holiday rental in Beja.

Be sure to also read our article on holiday rentals in Beja district as well.
