Holiday rentals in Lousa are definitely the preserve of outdoor enthusiasts.  To the south of Coimbra, this is a mountainous region, on the edge of the Serra da Estrela National Park. 

This beautiful unspoilt area lends itself to activities such as hiking, hill walking, mountain biking, riding and river swimming.  The small town of Lousa has an interesting old centre but the main attraction is Lousa Castle which overlooks the town and has views over the river Mondego, one of the main rivers in central Portugal.

Whilst Lousa holiday rentals make an ideal base for an active, outdoor holiday, there are other options.  The university city of Coimbra is an easy drive to the north and, thanks to the main A1 motorway, even a day in Lisbon or Porto is worth thinking about.
