Matosinhos municipality is, like its neighbour Maia, essentially just a northern suburb of Porto.
Unlike Maia however, Matosinhos does have a coastline and, as a result, there are a few Matosinhos holiday rentals to be found.
Just to the north of Matosinhos town itself, is a large oil refinery but get past that and the beaches are long and wide and this is where most Matosinhos holiday rentals will be found.
The town itself boasts a marina, a fishing port and commercial docks, and has a reputation for excellent seafood restaurants. The local landmark is the “Cheese Castle”, built so close to the sea that waves often break against its walls. It is considered to look like a piece of cheese – rather strange for a castle!

This area is only minutes away from the airport which may be a problem for some and an attraction for others. There are apartments to rent in Matosinhos close to the beaches.
Purpose-built, these Matosinhos holiday rentals are usually 2 or 3 bedroom units and are very modern with all the conveniences. This location is not as commecialised as, for instance, the Algarve, which makes a Matosinhos holiday rental more tranquil. You can enjoy the beach and the wonderful sunsets without the constant beat of discos in the background. I have not found any evidence of larger villas to rent in Matosinhos.
The proximity to Porto means that you will have easy access to all the city has to offer together with coastline and countryside as well.
