Holiday Rentals in Portimao - A Guide to Portimao
This is where it all started! In the late 1800’s people started taking holiday rentals in Portimao and have been doing so ever since. Praia da Rocha could claim to be the most famous beach in the Algarve and has a nightlife to rival Albufeira.
There are lots of Portimao holiday rentals at Praia da Rocha but remember, this resort never sleeps. If you don’t want to either that’s fine, you’ll be in paradise. A quieter place to spend the evening is Alvor with its seaside bars and restaurants. Both areas have long sandy beaches and excellent facilities for water sports.
By choosing your location carefully, a holiday rental in Portimao will give you the holiday you want. By the way, don’t miss the sardine festival in late summer!

Types of Holiday Rentals in Portimao
There are any number of apartments to rent in Portimao, some in the town itself and many at Praia da Rocha and Alvor. As often happens, most are 2 bedroom apartments to rent in Portimao but there are a few single bedroom units.
The apartment complexes are well designed, most units have a sea view and there is always a pool for tenants use. There are also several luxury villas to rent in Portimao. These are larger than apartments, usually 4 or 5 bedrooms and of course are more expensive. If your budget runs to a villa holiday you will have the benefit of your own pool and, usually, a garden. Some are on the edge of golf courses.
By the time you have split the cost between 8 or 10 people it isn’t so much more expensive than an apartment. There are a few houses to rent in Portimao town itself but most of the Portimao holiday rentals are near the beaches.
Portimao Useful Information
Portimao municipality is in the western Algarve but if, like so many British visitors, you are arriving via Faro airport, the main A22 road will soon bring you to your Portimao holiday rental. The other option is to drive south from Lisbon, again this poses no problem.
The municipality covers 183 square kilometers and, with a population of 52,000 is quite densely populated. Most of the residents live near the coast making the coastal strip a lively bustling place.
