All the municipalities along the Duoro valley are beautiful and Cinfaes is no exception. The further upstream you go the steeper the valley and the more spectacular the scenery.

Cinfaes and neighbouring municipalities Resende and Lamego are just so delightful they are a "must see" if you are in this part of Portugal.

Santo Tirso is something of an undiscovered jewel. In the northern part of Porto District, bordering Viseu district, Santo Tirso holiday rentals benefit from pleasant countryside and proximity to Portugal's second city.

We didn't find many holiday rentals in Santo Tirso during our exploration of Porto district but we're sure they are out there somewhere.

Paredes Holiday Rentals

Since Paredes is the Portuguese word for "Walls" you would expect to find a fair few in this municipality with the same name. In fact there is not much left of the old city walls. There are lots of places in Portugal with "Paredes" in the name and it can be quite confusing, particularly if you are searching on the internet. Penafiel seems to be something of a forgotten municipality. To the east are the beautiful areas of Amarante, Marco de Canaveses and Baiao; to the west the more populated areas approaching the city of Porto.

Povoa de Varzim on the Costa Verde

This looks interesting doesn't it? It is the summit of Monte Felix in the municipality of Povoa Varzim. The obelisk marks the highest point of the municipality and can be seen for miles around. We have just been exploring the municipality of Maia in Porto District and have found that it is very industrialised and quite densely populated – not an obvious choice of location for a holiday rental in Porto. However, there just may be some jewels lurking in Maia, possibly in the more rural north. If you know of any such Maia holiday rentals then please, do let us know.

Continuing our exploration of the Porto District, we came across the municpality of Lousada. Something of a "Mecca" for motor sports enthusiasts, this small but well populated locality in the Duoro valley is worth a second look.
