Holiday Rentals in Valongo - A Guide to Valongo
This small municipality in Porto District is not ideally placed for holiday makers and holiday rentals in Valongo are a bit thin on the ground. It is usual for the name of the largest city to also be the name of the municipality. In the case of Valongo, however, the largest city is Ermesinde which is in reality just a residential suburb of Porto.
This is the same situation as we found in Gondomar where the parts of the municipality nearest to Porto were heavily populated.

Types of Holiday Rentals in Valongo

North of Valongo, towards Santo Tirso, the terrain is more rural and would be a better situation for Valongo holiday rentals. but this really doesn’t seem to be tourist country.
This is borne out by the rental property which we did find in the area. There are apartments to rent in Valongo, mainly in Ermesinde, but they are not really holiday apartments. They are nice enough apartments but they do not appear to have the luxuries and finer points which holiday makers would expect to find. I believe these apartments to rent in Valongo are really aimed at youngsters travelling during their gap year, or possible couples who are coming to the area to work on a fixed time contract.
Having said that, the apartments to rent in Valongo which I found were perfectly reasonable and a lot less expensive than the luxury apartments which you would find near the coast. They could make very reasonable Valongo holiday rentals if you wanted to visit Porto and are on a tight budget.
Getting to a holiday rental in Valongo or Ermesinde would not be a problem. Ideally you could make use of the offers at Porto Airport Car Hire but failing that, since this is still essentially part of Metropolitan Porto, the public transport links are good, especially into the city of Porto itself.
